About Me
Gesuiña Campos
My love for music started very early with the gospel choir of my
El Paso, Texas, hometown church. Having danced Folklorico most of my
childhood, I was naturally attracted to the art of Mariachi performance and all its genres. These early musical roots have allowed me to venture out and explore different genres and styles, such as Latin jazz and classical Western. Though El Paso will always have a soft spot in my heart, I’m currently settled in Austin, which is deemed the world’s music capital to many. Here, my passion for music continues to flourish.
I have always been involved in music in one way or another, and my
youth, I was particularly active in band and choir ensembles. I’ve always sought to give back to my communities when possible. With my love of music and psychology, I intend to continue my studies to become a board-certified Music Therapist. Post studies, I intend to open a nonprofit organization that provides affordable therapy services to low-income youth.
In the most unexpected ways, wearing a cap and goggles has helped
shape me into the person I am today. Alongside music, I’ve always loved
swimming and being active. This sport taught me the importance of discipline and perseverance, attributes that would spread into my everyday life. During my undergraduate studies, I would become both Risk Manager and Vice President of my university’s swim club, bringing together a community of talented swimmers.
I am currently in the homestretch of my studies at the University of North Texas, graduating with a B.A. in Music with a voice concentration and a psychology minor. I have a very active student life, being a member of SAI, the women’s water polo club, the Camerata choir, and the Mariachi Aguilas music ensemble. I enjoy swimming, hiking in nature, and having a good cup of tea or coffee in my free time.

Secrets, Sisterhood, and Sheet Music: My Journey with SAI” 🎶💖🎭
The initiation into Sigma Alpha Iota may be top secret (and no, I won’t spill no matter how many lattes you offer), but what I can share is that it marked the beginning of an unbreakable sisterhood. Music brought us together, but the friendships, late-night rehearsals, and shared love for the arts are what truly make this bond last a lifetime.

Mariachi at the State Capitol: Moment Honoring My Roots
Performing with Mariachi Águilas de UNT at the Texas State Capitol was a powerful full-circle moment, blending tradition, passion, and heritage in a space where the echoes of mariachi music carried the soul of Mexico into the heart of Texas.

Performing “By Night” by Elaine Hagenberg with Camerata was a breathtaking experience, uniting us as an ensemble under the brilliant direction of Julianna LoBiondo, with the powerful guest percussion of Dr. Crawford.
